[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]
Name: Nanako Dojima
Age: 7
Gender: Female
Canon: Persona 4
Timeline: Post True End

Character History:
Nanako @ SMT Wikia

Character Personality:

Nanako Dojima is a fairly straightforward girl. She's strong and resilient for her age, and very self-reliant. Through the years since her mother's death, she's taken up the high majority of the responsibility of the house while her father is busy at work and doesn't know how to cook. She makes up for his fault and she doesn't begrudge him it at the age she is. It's just how their family works if you ask her, and she's okay doing the laundry and the dishes and the grocery shopping and everything besides coffee making and driving. Nanako is the type of girl to take everything on for the sake of others, and her home life is the prime example.

Her greatest strength is her heart. She cares for people wholeheartedly, especially if they've given her a reason to. Even if they haven't, Nanako reaches out and helps. Being so young, she's able to believe the best of people. On the other side of that, she's also got a bit of a shy streak towards anyone she doesn't know. She even makes sure not to open the door for strangers at home under her father's instruction, and in order to really see the easy-going and caring Nanako you must establish yourself as someone she recognizes. Though shy at first, throughout the last year she's grown comfortable with more people than her father and friends at school. The protagonist of the game - affectionately called "Big Bro" by her - has reached out to the Nanako past her shy shell.

This activates the beginning, the middle, and the end of Nanako's social link. She is of the Justice Arcana. There are multiple reasons as to why she takes up the mantle of this arcana, the most important being her position and role within the story and each of the endings the game has. If the player chooses to kill Namatame, Nanako will stay dead. If the player doesn't kill him but doesn't pick the right set of answers, she'll stay in the hospital for a long time, hoping to recover in a world filled with fog. If the player picks the right set of answers, Nanako recovers quickly: in enough time that she's out and about by the time the protagonist leaves to go back on a train, thus effectively ending the game. This Arcana is most suitable for someone in this position not because of any overwhelming sense of justice within the person, but because the fate you choose effects her the most, effectively reflecting exactly how much justice was done upon each of the endings.

She is also the daughter of a police detective whose mother was killed in a hit and run, the culprit of which was never found. Her demeanor is caring and sweet, and she's in a position to take up the slack of her father. Justice (or, more accurately, the lack of) surrounds Nanako's life. It surrounds her position in life, and the game effectively makes use of its Arcana system to use her as an example of the lack of justice in the world, and the presence of it if the player chooses the right path. Nanako is a reflection, a pure reflection full of love not only for the player and her father, but for the Investigation Team as a whole.

During her social link, she asks why bad people do bad things, another nod to her Arcana as well as her father's occupation. She doesn't understand why her dad puts bad people above her and spends all his time with them. It takes the player to assure her that her father is doing it to protect her and the town they live in. Nanako learns a little more about the world through this, and despite her resentment towards her father during part of the arc, she ultimately loves him and wants him to love her as well.

Junes is Nanako's favorite place on Earth. She loves it because it's convenient and because its commercials are so catchy. More importantly, she loves it because she's grown very familiar with and attached to it. The jingle is her favorite thing to sing, and she does it all the time, most notably when a commercial pops up on television.

Despite the serious issues that surround her life, Nanako is still a child who likes childish things and doesn't understand all of the issues surrounding her. During one of the scenes throughout her social link, she asks the player about death, more importantly where people go after they die. It's a significant moment, not only because of the fate of her mother but because later on in the game when she's thrown into the TV, her subconscious creates a paradise called Heaven. There's no Shadow at the top of it, though, not one made by her. She's too young to have issues repressed enough to manifest a Shadow.

Character Abilities you would like to expand on further:
Nanako is very good at household chores and keeping up the housework. She also likes singing and shopping. As a child, she has a higher agility than she would if she were older.

Character Weaknesses you would like to expand on further:
Her mother is a soft spot for her, as well as the idea of losing anyone else she loves. She's also a child, which means her physical strength is lower than what it would be if she was older.

[ SOUL CAMPAIGN SECTION ]

What abilities will your character retain in Soul Campaign?

❀ Housekeeping and shopping.
❀ Agility due to her age.
❀ Singing.
❀ Pretty much everything, considering Nanako has no supernatural powers

What weaknesses will your character lose or gain in Soul Campaign?

❀ Because her dad isn't there and she's not old enough to get a job, she'll have to be dependent on other people for anything more than the basics provided.
❀ Kindness and caring in the face of whatever, which could be exploited by the wrong person...
❀ She'll lose her childlike weakness due to her being a weapon, though she'll still be weaker than an adult weapon, she'll be stronger than what she was prior to arriving.

The wish Death the Kid made to the BREW in 2009 was to “rescue Death City and stop the waves of Madness from overtaking the world.” By whatever means necessary. Pretend you are the BREW. Why would you choose to bring this character to Death City?

"By whatever means necessary" implies violence. It implies unsavory means. Nanako is not picked out by BREW, however, to be brought to Death City to encourage those means some deem necessarily. Instead she's here to cover the other side of the spectrum of "whatever". Nanako is there to be a calming presence in the chaos of madness. She's brought to Death City to give the city and guests hope, to give them something to fight for, and even to encourage the idea of a nonviolent or more merciful solution to the war.

If your character has difficulty verbally communicating or can’t verbally communicate at all (mute or non-humanoid), elaborate on how this will be treated in the game. N/A

[ WEAPON ONLY SECTION ]

Why is your character a Weapon and not a Meister?

I chose Nanako to be a weapon due to her role in canon: she is a victim of circumstance, someone who doesn't have much say in what happens to her due to her age and dependency. Things happen to her she doesn't get much, if any choice in. Her role is very reactive, rather than proactive, and for that reason I've chosen to make her a weapon, because as a weapon she's more suitable to taking direction and following the proaction of another person, rather than her own.

I'd also like her to grow the ability to stand on her own, should she choose the wrong Meister and be used for a purpose she might not like or agree with. As a weapon, she'd eventually learn who to trust and who not to, thus developing her own critical thinking and a healthy dose of skepticism. On top of that, if Souji and Yosuke also get in, they'll be a family of weapons.

What is your character’s Weapon Form? Why?
Nanako will transform into a Demon Magical Detective Loveline Spyglass complete with funny monocle, tophat, and mustache because it's the weapon of her favorite TV show star of all time: Magical Detective Loveline. It's definitely a little goofy looking, since it's from a children's anime, and has the spyglass part as its mouth. It's meant to be some sort of gentleman dog, with a heart with wings where a bowtie would be, thus rendering anything under that a pastel colored handle, complete with buttons.

For reference, this development of Nanako's interests only shows up in the anime version of the game but I'm operating under the intention that it's heavily backed headcanon and thus fits as a weapon form.

What is your character’s Weapon Ability?
Nanako's weapon ability will be Sight of Truth. If someone looks through Nanako's weapon form's spyglass, they will be able to see things as they actually are. This means that anyone who achieves resonance with Nanako and looks through the spyglass during the troubling times of the Madness Wavelength will be able to see things as they actually are, instead of as the Madness wants them to see things. Fear/Rage induced effects will be able to be seen through. She can also spot and pinpoint enemy's weaknesses and strengths, as well as if someone's lying or being deceptive.

The usefulness of this ability depends on her resonance with her Meister. Pre-resonance, the glass is foggy. The better the resonance, the clearer the spyglass is and the easier to see through. This includes range as well as depth perception through the looking glass. It's possible certain resonances will clear up one side of the glass but not the other, or even make it easier to see through in certain ways (colors, shapes, lines, so on) but not in others. Please keep in mind that Nanako herself isn't aware of what her Meister sees when they look through her looking glass, instead she can tell how clear the spyglass itself is at any time.

However, it isn't as though perfect resonation is the only thing she needs in order to make the most of her Weapon Ability. It will only work if the spyglass is aimed towards someone weaker than her. That is, any Kishin Egg, Witch, Meister, or Weapon that's stronger than her will be immune to her ability. That means in the beginning there won't be many, if any, people she can see the truth of, but the stronger she gets the more useful her ability will be. On top of that, player permission will be needed for any encounters she has with characters in the game.

[ SOUL INFORMATION ]

Describe your character’s soul with six adjectives.
Naive, mature, young, strong, shy, dependable.

What does your character’s soul look like? Be creative.
Nanako's soul is small. It's a light pink with two tiny pigtail curls at the bottom signifying the hairstyle in which she usually wears her hair. Her soul eyes are the exact same size as an adult soul's, which, when seen on her small soul, makes them appear much bigger proportionally.

[The feed begins with no sound, only a bit of breathing at best. Half a minute goes by like this, until Nanako gets her resolve and decides to be brave and just get through it. She starts...] He... Hello. My name is... Nanako Dojima. I'm seven years old and I... like Junes.

Um...

[She speaks slowly, nervously, shyly.]

Has anyone seen my dad? His first name's Ryotaro, and he works a lot. Sometimes he gets angry and yells, but he's my real father and I love him a lot. I don't think he'd like it if I was here without him... He always wears his jacket over his shoulder and sometimes he smokes when he thinks I'm not looking. He had a partner... his name's Detective Adachi. I don't know if he's here either... But if he is, um, he probably knows where Dad is...

[Um.]

It's a pleasure to meet everyone, and, um, thank you for your help! [In a hurry, the feed disconnects.]

"I'll see you, Big Bro. Buh-bye!"

When he got on the train, Nanako wanted to go with him. When his friends ran after him, shouting about how their friendship would never end, that no matter how far apart they are they'll always be friends, Nanako wanted to go after them too. Her father had a firm grasp on her shoulder, though, and that coupled with the fact her little legs couldn't catch up to them in time... And before she knew it, she was crying.

Big Bro... he was gone. Really, truly gone. He wasn't coming back anytime soon. After a whole year... he just vanished, like he'd never been there at all. But that wasn't true either, because now she had a bunch of other older siblings too... Yosuke and Chie... Yukiko and Kanji... Rise and Naoto... and Teddie... She wasn't alone now, and it was all thanks to her Big Bro. Nanako was going to miss him. She already missed him! But she knew she could stay strong for him, for their friends and for everyone! For her father after what happened... He didn't have a partner anymore, so she'd have to be there for him extra.

Souji wasn't coming back, and she watched the train disappear through a row of trees with her father, who'd taken to holding her head against him. The others stopped at the edge of the boarding platform to watch the train disappear too. Nanako thought she might hear them talking... but couldn't make out the words. She was sure they were kind... They would all remain friends after he was gone. He did so much...

Nanako knew he'd come back, though, because they still needed to get married. It's with that in mind that she was able to say goodbye then, with the promise that they'd meet again. After that moment of resolve, everything went black.

And Nanako woke up in a dark place, alone and afraid.
